SANDPOINT — Ryan Webster bounced back from a tough loss against Moscow to score a first period pin, but it wasn’t enough as Lake City edged Sandpoint 42-33 in a nonleague dual where each team led multiple times on Friday night at Les Rogers Court.

Webster controlled the action from the first whistle, using his signature Hi-C move to pin Henry Wester in the first period to give the Bulldogs a brief 21-18 lead.

“It was back and forth all night,” said Bulldog head coach Jake Stark of the home dual. “Ryan lost a tough one on Wednesday, but he’s back in his groove. He came out and he was shooting.”

The Bulldogs were without Hyrum Hunsaker, who was invited to take part in the Hall of Fame Classic in Boise today, where the two best wrestlers from all classes are picked in each weight for an all-star dual featuring the best in the state. Hunsaker will face Austin Ford from Bonneville at 170 pounds.

The absence of Hunsaker, coupled with a pair of forfeits, proved too much for the Bulldogs to overcome.

Evan Stickelmeyer (285) scored a first period pin to run his record to 9-5 on the season, Jake Ryan secured a pin at 126 pounds and McLean Weig broke a 1-1 tie with an escape in the final seconds to earn a decision for the Bulldogs (6-12), who host Bonners Ferry in a dual on Tuesday.
