Feb. 6, 1968 — COLBURN NEWS

Colburn PTA will meet Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 at the Colburn School.

Colburn 3-H Club met Wednesday with 11 members and one visitor, Mrs. Evan Parish, present. Cards were played with high score won by Mrs. Jake Iverson, second high won by Mrs. Mearl Brown Jr., and low score won by Mrs. Ron May. Traveling prize went to Mrs. Evan Parish.

Mr. and Mrs. Werner Paulet and daughters, Virginia and Frances, and Steve Maki, Bonners Ferry, were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stradley.

JUDY ACHER TO WED BRUCE BUTLER

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Acher of Helena, Mont., announce the engagement of their daughter, Judy, to Bruce Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy M. Butler of Hope. Both are seniors at Gonzaga University in Spokane. Miss Acher attended summer school and one semester at Sophia University, Tokyo. A summer wedding is planned.

Feb. 6, 1918 - DECISION IN WATER CASE

The utilities commission has ruled that the Humbird company cannot supply water to the N.P. Humbird has been supplying the railroad with water from its own water system and action was brought by the water company to prohibit this because Humbird is not a utilities corporation.

AS TO THE CLARKSFORK BRIDGE

The question of what kind of bridge shall be built over the river at Clarksfork is of great import to the future of the whole county, more than it might appear at first. If the county builds it, with the state putting up $50,000 and the county the rest, the state will be responsible to maintain it. If the bridge is built contrary to state requirements, the county will lose the chance of ever having the road eastward, by Hope, Clarksfork and Cabinet to the state line, made a state highway to be maintained by the state. This Kootenay-Cabinet highway is the road we want more than any for a national automobile highway. Its possibilities are ten times that of the route to the north.

BONANZA AT ARMSTEAD MINES

The best news to reach Bonner county was flashed over the wires Thursday from the Armstead mines at Talache, formerly called Blacktail, Idaho, stating that a large vein of high grade ore had been struck in the No. 3 tunnel of that company’s workings. The vein was stuck at a tunnel depth of 3504 feet and a perpendicular depth from the No. 2 tunnel of 1600 feet.
