Engelhardt announces bid for assessor

| February 6, 2018 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Republican Dennis Engelhardt is officially announcing his candidacy for Bonner County Assessor during a campaign event on Thursday, Feb. 15.

The campaign kickoff starts at 4 p.m. at Second Avenue Pizza.

Engelhardt said he is is running for assessor because the principal duty of the assessor is that of an administrator and the office is in need of reliable and supportive leadership with a fresh and unbiased perspective. “Having decades of management and administrative experience at the county government level, I can offer common sense leadership and management to benefit both property owners and the employees of the Assessor’s Office.”

Engelhardt was also motivated to seek the office following discussions with residential and business property owners around the county who have dealt with the Assessor’s Office about their assessments and who felt there was little regard for their concerns.

“If given the privilege to serve as Assessor I will work to create trust and confidence between property owners and the Office of the Assessor. As Assessor I will ensure fair assessment practices, develop transparency of the Assessor’s operations, facilitate greater and more convenient access to assessment and appeal processes and promote a culture of public service within the office.”

Engelhardt is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, and a retired law enforcement administrator following a 30-year career. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice, a bachelor’s degree in vocational education, and has many years of experience managing of multimillion-dollar budgets and large workforces.

Engelhardt served as a Sagle Fire District Commissioner from August 2013 to December 2017. In 2008 he served on the Bonner County Waste Management Advisory Board and as a volunteer for the Festival at Sandpoint 2004-2012.

A registered Republican for 45 years, Dennis has served as state committeeman for the Bonner County Republican Central Committee, chaired delegations to Idaho State Republican conventions and was a candidate in 2010 for the Idaho State Senate in the then District 2.

“I believe voters will recognize and value the improvements I’m proposing for the Assessor’s Office,” Engelhardt said. “After all, it is their property.”
