Winter Thaw sailing fundraiser coming soon

| February 7, 2018 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — If you have ever wondered about the world of sailing, come and find out how to get involved as Sandpoint Sailing Association is holding their annual Winter Thaw Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 6-9 p.m. at the Elks Golf Course club house.

This event is open to the public so anyone can enjoy sailing stories, meet other sailors and learn about sailing opportunities on Lake Pend Oreille, even if you don’t own a sail boat or know how to sail.

SSA will be announcing the recent purchase of a Capri 18 sailboat for member use and will reveal the new holder program for members on the five Holder 14’ sailboats that SSA owns.

SSA is organizing additional sailing classes through Sandpoint Parks and Recreation this summer, along with new individual or small group lessons, and will continue to have informal races every Thursday night, starting in June, where non-sailors can participate by serving as crew on a sailboat.

In addition, SSA will also be offering a winter sailing workshop series (in cooperation with Sandpoint Parks and Recreation) in March, April and May. Detailed information about all these opportunities will be provided at the Winter Thaw.

The dinner is one of the larger fundraisers for Sandpoint Sailing Association, a 501c3 organization whose primary function is sailing education for youth and the general public. As part of the evening there will be a silent auction of member-donated items, gift baskets and gift certificates from local merchants.

The cost is $25 per person and reservations are required. Please RSVP to brobertson83864@gmail.com, and please give your entrée choice of either chicken Parmesan or baked cod. A check will also need to be mailed to SSA, P.O. Box 1156, Sandpoint, ID, 83864 no later than Feb. 12, so act now.
