Festival hosting music workshop, house concert
The Festival at Sandpoint will host a music workshop for string players on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m., followed by a house concert at 7 p.m. performed by the cello/violin duo, Half Pelican. The workshop and performance will take place at The Festival at Sandpoint office, 525 Pine, in downtown Sandpoint.
The workshop is ideally for violin and cello players; however, it can also accommodate violists and bass players. Workshop attendees can expect to learn at least one fiddle tune, and the cellists will come away with a working knowledge of how to back up a fiddle tune by ear. The workshop will also focus on improvisation, traditional ornamentation, grooves or chords by request.
The workshop will cost $15 and any attendees are welcome to attend the evening concert for free. The concert is open to the public with a $10 suggested donation.
Half Pelican, comprised of violinist Andy Reiner and cellist Joy Adams, plays pre-historic Americana: cosmic acoustic grooves influenced by Appalachian, bluegrass and Scandinavian pre-historic music. They have been featured on the soundtrack of the Netflix series “Godless.” They tour as a duo as well as members of Darol Anger and the Furies, and teach at fiddle camps across the country.
