GALE COLE NAMED BY BOTTLE MONTHLY

Gale Cole, Hope, is featured in January’s issue of The Bottle Examiner, printed at Aurora, Ore. The paper reprinted the story of Mrs. Cole’s bottle collection carried last year by the News-Bulletin and she is designated Collector of The Month.

Mrs. Cole is a private collector with a place of display she named The Cole Shed, located on U.S. 10-A between Trestle creek and Hope.

SEES LARGE CAT

News Editor Don Dundon was privileged to watch a cougar cross the highway in front of his car Saturday morning. He is more accustomed to seeing deer on the roadway. The big cat came from the Sommerfeld ranch, crossed U.S. 95 and vanished into the Linscott gravel pit.

MUSICIANS CHOSEN

Kent Lyons, Diane LaMoreaux, Patty Spade and Antonia Venishnick, members of the SHS orchestra, have been chosen to attend the All-State Music Festival Feb. 15-19 in Boise, says Mrs. Marian Ruyle, school orchestra director.

Feb. 11, 1918 — SMALLPOX IN CAMPS

Small pox has become epidemic in the camps. At Colburn yesterday, it was reported to Sheriff Remer, a man broken out with the disease was in the postoffice. “The lumberjack has no place to go when taken down with smallpox,” said Remer. “They keep calling our office to know what to do. With no pest house the condition is running wild.”

STIFF PENALTIES FIXED BY UNCLE SAM

Last week Food Administrator Bicknell asked that all infractions of the new regulations for the selling and consumption of flour be reported immediately to him. “Make it plain,” he said, “that there is no choice in the matter but that the new regulations MUST be obeyed. Our remedy against the retailer for a breach will be an order to wholesalers not to sell them any further supplies; remedy against the consumer will be prosecution under the hoarding provisions of the food control act which, upon conviction, will subject them to a fine not exceeding $5000 or imprisonment for not more than two years, or both.

RED CROSS DOING A GREAT WORK

Mrs. R.J. Sage of Morton is in receipt of a letter from her son Bert, stationed “with the colors” at Vallejo, Calif., saying: “The Red Cross and YMCA are great things. They sure have it fine here. You would be surprised if you could see what they are really doing for the soldiers and sailors.”
