| February 13, 2018 12:00 AM

Students, regardless of age, are encouraged to apply for the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association (BCSA) Scholarships, given in honor of Leo Hadley and other outstanding sportsmen and women in Bonner County. Three $500 scholarships for use during the 2018-2019 academic year are available. Bonner County residents who are graduates of, or who are currently enrolled in a public, private, or home school program, and who have successfully completed a Hunter Education course are eligible. Adults who are continuing their education, as well as youth, are welcome to apply.

Applicants may apply by completing an application which is available at www.Bonnercountysportsmen.org or writing a letter of request to “BCSA Scholarship, PO Box 1011, Sandpoint, ID 83864”. Students planning to advance their education, and who are interested in outdoor and conservation activities, have completed a Hunter Education program, and may have personal or family participation in local sportsmen and civic organizations are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is open to adults as well as youth, and the scholarship recipients will be chosen by June 1, 2018. Scholarship applications will also be available at the Bonner County Gun ’n Horn Show, March 2, 3, and 4, 2018 at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

Postmark deadline for applications is April 15, 2018.

The BCSA scholarship was originally started as a memorial to sportsman and community leader Leo Hadley, who passed away in 1998. Leo was well-known for his community service. His love for the outdoors led to his long term involvement and service to Hunter Education, the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association, the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and many other organizations.

The scholarship has been expanded to honor and memorialize other outstanding sportspersons.

Contributions to the scholarship fund can be made by sending your donation to the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1011, Sandpoint, ID 83864. Last year’s scholarship winners included Kent C. Youngdahl, Geoffrey Collins, and Thomas E. Luckey.
