NO SPRING SCHOOL VACATION

The board of education has broken custom and decided to have no spring vacation this year. The arguments in favor of abandoning the vacation were chiefly for economy of time. A week’s vacation would set the date for closing the year’s work one week farther away. Many older scholars have work they might do during the long vacation, while one week taken out of the midst of their school work would be absolutely lost. Considering that the country needs every “bit” the children can do in the raising of produce and otherwise in the coming summer, the board deemed it wise to speed up the school work and end the year at the earliest possible date.
