n Wind blows away Olympic Alpine events — The Men’s speed events were put on hold due to high winds, as was the Women’s Giant Slalom. I you look at the trail maps, most of the events are run on the spine of ridges. This, combined with limited forests, leaves them exposed to the effects of nature. We’ll bring a full report next week.

n Youth Ski League series No. 2 — Mount Spokane hosted Slalom and Giant Slalom races for the U12 crowd last weekend. The snow was extra hard, presenting a new set of challenges to the field. A number of local racers competed. The top local finisher was Cadin Billstin, who placed 15th in Slalom for U12 Boys. Other competitors were: Jeru Gidley, Dakota Landwehr, Grace Meekings, Riley Murphy, Crosby Schmidt and Hallie Wyman.

n Starlight “Spy Games” — The adults continues the battle for bragging rights and prizes under the stars. The fastest men’s and women’sraw times were: Alpine skiers Chris Acosta and Courtney Altringer. The fastest snowboard times were posted by Adam Tajan and Tanya Britt. In the Telemark world, Dylan Taylor was the fastest male and Kerri Kuntz the fastest female. The three top teams, in descending order, were “Team with the Golden Skis,” “007Bs” and “The Pole Dancers.” A couple of more great team names for your entertainment… “Thunderballers” and “Octopuccis.”
