Winter Carnival lights up entertainment options

SANDPOINT — Winter Carnival fun is upon us! Along with the always fantastic Parade of Lights — held Friday night though the downtown core — every venue from Schweitzer Mountain Resort to the Panida Theater to every watering hole in town has something extra special planned for this annual celebration of winter.

Tonight, catch harmonica master and vocalist randy McAllister on stage with his band at the Panida.

Friday is packed with fun, including the tribute band Petty Fever at the Panida, a Chinese New Year party at Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters and a lovely classical guitar concert as part of the Friends of the Guitar Hour (that’s Sandpoint’s own Leon Atkinson’s show on Spokane Public Radio) concert with Paul Grove in Spokane. On Sunday, there’s a Mardi Gras party out in Hope.

Thursday, Feb. 15

Randy McAllister

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

This Grammy-nominated blues singer/songwriter is coming to the Panida! Don’t miss this East Texas Blues/Soul Artist with awesome vocals and the tastiest harp work heard in a long time.

‘The Conversation — ‘Social Media Tips’

Venue: Ivano’s Ristorante, 102 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Friday, Feb. 16

Winter Carnival Parade of Lights

Venue: Downtown Sandpoint

Time: 5:30 p.m.

The wild ‘n’ crazy Parade of Lights arrives in downtown Sandpoint with its legions of zany floats, marching groups, and snow-shovel brigades! Parade starts at City Parking Lot, goes down Church to First, along First to Cedar, up Cedar to Fourth, and back to the City Lot (Awards Ceremony immediately following parade, near staging area).

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Friends of the Guitar Hour present Paul Grove

Venue: Holy Names Music Center, 3910 W. Custer Dr., in Spokane.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

If you enjoy Leon Atkinson’s weekly show, The Guitar Hour, on Spokane Public Radio-KPBX-FM, you’re in for a real treat with this upcoming classical guitar concert series. Dr. Paul Grove has been praised by audiences, critics, composers, and teachers as an outstanding performer and teacher on the classical guitar.

Petty Fever Tribute Band

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Petty Fever is a Multi-Award Winning full production tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. The production is the recipient of multiple entertainment awards, which include a 2017 Las Vegas FAME Award for ‘Outstanding Tribute and the 2013 & 2014 Los Angeles Music Awards ‘Tribute Band of The Year.’

Chinese New Year Party

This benefit for Underground Kindness features a Woods Wheatcroft art opening and a dance party with music provided by DJ Mercury. A cash bar will be on hand.

Devon Wade

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint Idaho with a strong love for what country music has always been — songs about real life.

The Beat Diggers

Bring your dancing shoes and enjoy one of Sandpoint’s favorite all “local” bands as they play your favorite rock and roll tunes.

Winter Carnival Cornhole Classic

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Registration from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., first toss at 1 p.m.

Cornhole kings and queens will be taking to the three regulation indoor brewery courts set up to test your tossin’ abilities in a double elimination tournament. They’re capping it to 32 teams so sign up early via the phone 208-209-6700 or show up day to register.

Admission: $20 buy-in per team, $10 per person for those 21 and over.

The Other White Meat

‘The Music of Star Wars’

Experience music from the Star Wars films by legendary composer, John Williams. Special lighting projections will be timed to the music.

‘Let It Glow!’ Night Parade & Fireworks

Schweitzer Mountain celebrates over Presidents’ Weekend with the Coca Cola Let it Glow! kids parade and fireworks show, in addition to Sunday night skiing. Also at Taps, enjoy apres music with Hawthorne Roots from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., and a party at 7 p.m. with Dodgy Mountain Men.
