Shinny in Sandpoint
Iris Harrison skates and practices some stick work on the makeshift ice at Lakeview Park, which formed recently when a spate of wet and warm weather melted most of the snow, followed by freezing temperatures at night. It made for what is called a “shinny,” essentially pond hockey, and Iris and husband Rob were able to skate around and pass the puck, while dodging obstacles like fallen branches. “For us, just a great way to be outside on a nice day,” said Rob Harrison. A fresh 10 inches of snow has since covered up the ice.
