Tamarack winglets gain PMA approval
SANDPOINT — Tamarack Aerospace Group has announced today that it has now received additional parts manufacturer approval for its ATLAS active winglets on the Cessna Citation business jet line, with new authorizations for the C525B series, which includes the CJ3 and CJ3+ aircraft. Tamarack already has approvals on the C525 CJ series. PMA authorizes Tamarack to manufacture and install the ATLAS kits at its Sandpoint facility.
“In the last week we have received EASA STC approval for the C525B, then FAA validation of that STC, and now FAA manufacturing approval for the ATLAS active winglet kit.” said Nick Guida, founder and CTO of Tamarack Aerospace. “From my perspective, this is ample evidence that the Tamarack team now has the expertise and working relationships with our regulatory partners, in both the E.U. and U.S., to not only obtain multiple sequential regulatory approvals, but quickly turn those STCs into an installable product, so I am very proud of this accomplishment.”
The operational benefits that owners will see with an active winglet equipped aircraft are:
- Range now 2,100 nm at Maximum Continuous Thrust with IFR reserve.
- Maximum Zero Fuel Weight increase of 400 lb.
- Direct climb to FL450 in 30 minutes or less.
- Increased climb gradients.
- Improved single-engine climb performance.
- Ride smoothing and stability.
- Upgraded LED navigation & anti-collision lighting.
Beyond range and time to climb, Brian Cox, chief operating officer of Tamarack Aerospace, said owners will also see the other benefits of Tamarack’s active winglets such as stability, improved hot/high performance, new LED exterior lighting, aesthetics and value retention.
“We’ve recently expanded our installation capacity at our Sandpoint facility and we now offer a one-week, plus painting time, install here by the factory experts,” he added.
Tamarack active winglets are the only aerodynamic technology on the market today that can reduce time to climb and fuel burn, while increasing range and aircraft stability, without any structural reinforcement, yielding significant time and cost savings. Tamarack active winglets are approved via EASA and FAA supplemental type certificate for installation on the Cessna CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, M2, CJ3 and CJ3+ business jets. Certification is underway on the on the CJ2/CJ2+ and is projected for April 2018.
Idaho based Tamarack Aerospace Group Inc. invented and patented the revolutionary Active Winglet system. Tamarack’s certified Active Winglets are three to four times more efficient than passive (traditional) winglets. The Active Winglet system typically provides a reduction in fuel burn, performance gains and increased asset value. The Active Winglet system is comprised of a wing tip extension, a highly tuned winglet, and load alleviation technology. The load alleviation system counteracts gust or maneuver wing loading events and eliminates the heavy wing reinforcement and structural additions required by all passive winglets.
