Leiss tenders resignation
SANDPOINT — After posting a 24-63 record in four years at the helm, Sandpoint boys head basketball coach Kent Leiss tendered his resignation on Thursday.
After posting just three wins in the 2016-17 season, the Bulldogs started this year strong, reeling off five straight wins over Priest River, Bonners Ferry, Timberlake, Davenport and Deer Park, before losing the final 14 games to finish 6-16.
The Bulldogs were 0-9 in the last two years against 4A Inland Empire rivals Lakeland and Moscow, as the program’s success seemed to be waning under Leiss’s stewardship.
“We appreciate all the time and effort he put into the SHS program and wish him luck in whatever he chooses to do relating to basketball,” said Sandpoint athletic director Kris Knowles. “I will open the job next week and hope to get some quality applicants.”
