McDonald is seeking second term

| February 24, 2018 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Incumbent Republican Bonner County Commissioner Dan McDonald contends he is unique in today’s political environment in that there are so few candidates have the ability or integrity to deliver on the promises they make.

McDonald, who represents District 3 on the commission, announced he is seeking re-election to a second term in office.

In 2016, Dan campaigned on responsible, business-oriented management of the county’s budget and assets, and bringing a cultural change to local government oriented on customer service and supervisory responsibility.

Since taking office, McDonald said he has delivered that and more. He has been instrumental in reducing the county’s budget by almost $8 million and reducing the number of department heads, which results in annual savings of approximately $250,000. He also moved the county into self-insured status, which is saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. McDonald also re-tasked the Road & Bridge Department to maintain the investment in county roads and creating a procurement/project manager position to take advantage of collective purchase, which has to date saved the county $600,000.

Moreover, McDonald has pushed a more customer-friendly profile for all county employees when interacting with the public.

McDonald said his kept promises and proven performance in the theme of his campaign and added that he has already exceeded his promises during his first term as commissioner.

McDonald is hold a campaign kickoff event on Monday, Feb. 26, at Second Avenue Pizza. The public is invited to the event, which runs from 4-8 p.m., to meet McDonald, learn more about his accomplishments and share ideas about even more improvements in the future.
