Feb. 27, 1968 — CIVIL AIR PATROL

Sandpoint Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol was reorganized Jan. 24 with Bob Cramer installed as the new commander with a rank of captain. New staff members are Bud Fournier, Clyde Kyte, Bob Linsday, Richard Martin, Howard Scott, Jeannine Spear, Marvin Spear and Ozzie Vallieres.

CHARM SCHOOL GIVES CERTIFICATES

After a poise lesson from Mrs. Frank Linscott, charm school students in the VFW Auxiliary-sponsored class were given certificates by Mrs. Herb Oliver. Honored were Darlene Booth, Gayle Sundgren, Patricia Lipps, Debra Roberts, Kathy Cochran, Kathy Kotschevar, Janis Bruhn, Cynthia Roos, Anna Marie Tourigny, Diane Medwick, Sue Tinsman, Jacqueline Raynor, Virginia Garrison, Sandra Lipps, Linda Chaney and Kris Kotschevar.

PARKINS AND CLARK LEAD SHS OFFENSE

SHS basketball team starting guards were the leading scorers for its 20-game regular season. Juniors Jack Parkins and Chris Clark topped nearly all offensive figures with Parkins the lead scorer at a 16.6 average and Clark next at 13.0. Bruce Greene, the only senior starter, had the best free throw shooting percentage, with 62.5% of his charity tosses converted. The club was led consistently all year in rebounding by Green and Ralph Sletager with lots of help from Scott Wyatt who came on very strong the end of the season.

Feb. 27, 1918 — CITY BREVITIES

That the northwest knows nothing of the suffering and inconveniences war and weather conditions have placed upon the middle west is the word brought back by Mrs. L.B. Brooks, just returned from a several weeks’ stay in Michigan. Mrs. Brooks states the lightless night and the coalless Monday are no jokes and are rigidly enforced. In Chicago, business was suspended in many stores on fuelless Monday and stores that did open conducted business with little if any heat. Some coalless days were the coldest days of the winter. Michigan has had its severest winter in many years and snow is exceptionally heavy.

OUR BOYS ARE “OVER THERE”

Letters from members of old Company A bear dates of late January and are from “somewhere in France.” They indicate some of Sandpoint’s boys are with heavy ordnance and some are guarding German prisoners; but where they are is not told.

NEWS FROM ODEN

North Oden school has served warm lunches of soup and crackers the past two weeks. The cost amounts to about two cents a day per pupil. The experiment is a great success, approved by all.

The north and south Oden schools are planning to have a joint “Junior League” entertainment at the north Oden school house this evening.
