Stevens, Sutton, Banks earn all-league honors
CLARK FORK — The Wampus Cats place three players on the All-North Star League Girls Basketball Team, as voted on recently by the league’s coaches, and the best part is they’re all underclassmen.
Junior guard Brooke Stevens made the all-league team for the third time, as much for her defense as her offense. She hit double figures in scoring 11 times, and scored 18 or more five times. Defensively, she posted two double-doubles by tallying 22 steals in two games against Wallace.
“Brooke got nominated not only for her success in the stat book, but you can tell that she loves the game,” praised first year head coach Jordan Adams. “She is just an all-around great player and has knowledge in all aspects of the game.”
Sutton emerged as a strong defender and rebounder, including 14 boards against Newport, and is one of the most improved players on the Wampus Cats this season. She’ll be a key piece next year on a team that went 5-3 in league play and returns every player.
“Ali Sutton came out a brand new player from last year,” said Adams. “She is aggressive on both ends of the court and has a go-get-it attitude that never gives up.”
Freshman Kaylee Banks earned a spot on the team, showing the ability to score (14 points against Kootenai) and defend (nine steals in a huge win over Lakeside), and figures to improve in the next three years.
“A freshman playing at her level is something that you just don’t see everyday,” admitted Adams. “She is an amazing athlete and has a passion for the game that a lot of older kids don’t even hold a candle to. She’s going to do great things if she keeps up with it.”
