We are but a small sample of those in our community who agree with Diane Wheeler and Aaron Kin in opposing the annual Follies sponsored by Angels Over Sandpoint.

Mrs. Wheeler expressed it well: there are plenty of ways to fundraise without behaving badly. Behaving so badly, in fact, that the kids who are the designated benefactors of that fundraiser actually have to be protected from exposure to it; and adults feel embarrassed that a local organization has sunk to this level.

The Angels’ president opined that “the end justifies the means” and touts the Follies as a draw for people from as far away as Oregon and Seattle. If so, does Sandpoint want to be a magnet for this kind of behavior?

A number of local non-profits raise tens of thousands of dollars and even six-figure amounts every year for worthwhile causes, some of which also benefit kids. None are of the kind you have to excuse with “the end justifies the means.”

Angels Over Sandpoint surely has the talents, imagination, and ingenuity to come up with fundraising ideas that make Sandpoint proud instead of causing us to cringe.

Angels, please show us your goodwill!
