SANDPOINT — Bonner County Chief Deputy Assessor Al Ribeiro is withdrawing his candidacy for Bonner County’s elected assessor.

Ribeiro announced during a Bonner County Republican Central Committee last fall that he intended to seek the office.

“At the time, knowing that Assessor Jerry Clemens would not be seeking re-election, I thought it an opportune time to step forward, but after greater consideration and discussion with family and friends I have reconsidered,” Ribeiro said in a statement announcing his withdrawal from the race.

“I have served as Jerry’s chief deputy assessor for nearly three years, and I find the duties meaningful and rewarding. I have a young family and cherish every moment I can spend with them and my current position allows a healthy and manageable balance,” Ribeiro added.

Three other GOP hopefuls — Dennis Engelhardt Richard Miller and Donna Gow — have emerged as candidates to succeed Clemons.

The candidacy declaration filing window for the May 15 primary election opened on Monday. It shuts on March 9, according to the Idaho Secretary of State.
