Sens. Mike Crapo and Jim Risch presented the cheery news that “Fixing Tax Code Benefits U.S., Helps Economy” (Bee, Dec. 26). They claim that their new tax code will provide:
- … you (with) more take home pay.
- Lower taxes for all Americans …
- New jobs and growth …
- Deficit reduction …
- Improved competitiveness …
- … (for) balanc(ing) our budget …
- … protect(ion for) our safety net programs …
- …for our national defense …
- If we do nothing, … our economy would struggle along …
Whether or not the senators believe all of that is hardly the problem; they want to con you into believing it.
Amy Goodman sheds a different light on the matter in her column “A Dark Day for the United States” (Spokesman Review, Dec. 22), in which she states;
- … it is the largest wealth transfer from bottom to top in American history.
- Trump … family and business will profit enormously.
- … tax breaks given to corporations and the wealthy are permanent
- … tax breaks given to the middle and working class are temporary.
- .,, $1.4 trillion deficit would pave the way for massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other important programs … pillars of the conservative movement for decades;
So, tack this clipping on the wall opposite to your toilet where you can refer to it daily, and particularly when the president and a couple of senators stand for reelection.
