Linda Nell Flood

Linda Nell Flood passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 29, 2017.

She was born July 29, 1942, in Compton, Calif., to Audy and Charlotte Dehart. She joined her sister, Lori, with brothers, Larry, John and Tony to follow. They grew up together in Los Angeles. Linda married Gary Flood on Feb. 12, 1961, in Beaumont. Together they raised Robert, Karon and Ross in Yucaipa, Calif. When they divorced in 1972, Linda went to work as a clerk, a dietician and then as a painter in the family business.

In 1979, sensing a need to relocate and not sure as to where, Linda did what so many others have done which was to get out the road atlas and open to the western U.S., close her eyes and point. Her finger landed on Sandpoint, Idaho. Shortly after Mt St. Helens erupted, Linda, with her two youngest Karon and Ross, found 20 acres of land with the creek running through it 3 miles up Flume Creek off Rapid Lightening Road. There they worked hard to make improvements and, after much work and TLC, they called the piece of land home.

During these years Linda worked for Don McCabe painting finishing many a fine home here in Bonner County. Linda thoroughly loved the peace and quiet and abundance of wildlife up Flume Creek. She was an avid gardener spending many hours there. To this day the volunteer peonies arriving in the spring look longingly for the nice lady to water them. Linda also helped to raise three of her grandkids up on the hill and they will miss her deeply as they were all very close. She was also active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Linda is survived by her sister, Lori and brother Tony; her sons, Robert (Susan) McClain in Texas, Ross Flood in Sandpoint and Karon (Bruce) Macek in Sagle; her grandkids Wyn, Kilah, Cameo, and Madison McClain, Elisha, Jason and Andrew Macek, and Kristin, Keifer, and Kyle Flood; as well as several great grandkids.

Linda was a wonderful woman, a great mother, grandmother and was a blessing to all who met her. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of her life will be held when the snows melt this spring up Flume Creek.
