Bottcher leads Sandpoint shooters

SAGLE — Doug Bottcher and Randy Poelstra each hit 24 of a possible 25 targets to lead the Sandpoint Gun Club in the Division III ranks of the 100th annual Spokesman Review Trap Shoot on Sunday Morning in Sagle.

The eight-week shoot pits shooters from around the Northwest against one another for eight Sundays in January, February and March, with men and women trying to blow clay pigeons out of the sky. Each target is 4-inches in diameter and shot out of a machine in any one of 72 different angles, traveling around 42 miles per hour.

Louis Dash and Roland Rose each carded a 23 for a team score of 94 to start off the season.

Barb Camps and Jonna Plante both blasted 22 targets, and Linda Bottcher hit 16 for a team score of 60 in the first week.

The scores from the Spokesman shoot determines the length of distance you shoot in the annual Noxon Shoot, held in conjunction each week, with higher scores meaning farther distance. Dash led the pack with a 43 (23/20), followed by Bottcher (24/18), Poelstra (24/18), Dave Bannister (21/21) and Jerry Schilling (22/20) with 42s for a score of 169 in the first of eight weeks.

Camps led the women shooters with a 39 (22/17), followed by Plante (22/11) and Bottcher (16/12) for a team score of 100.
