Cold-shooting Bulldogs fall short against Bengals
SANDPOINT — Every team has an off shooting night on occasion, and for the Sandpoint girls, that was the case on Monday in a nonleague girls basketball game at Les Rogers Court.
The Bulldogs (8-7) played their typical stingy defense, holding a solid 5A Bengal (12-5) squad in check, but could not covert on quality looks all night, falling 48-25 in a low scoring game.
Sandpoint shot just 18 percent from the field, as shot after shot seemed to roll or rim out against a lengthy Bengal defense. The team also struggled at the line, making an uncharacteristic 5 of 16. Bulldog head coach Duane Ward felt his team played good enough defense to win, but it was simply a tough night offensively.
“We had a lot of good shots,” he said. “But in the game of basketball, you have to make baskets.”
Bryn Cornenia led a balanced Bengal squad with nine points.
Sandpoint hosts Lakeland on Friday in the Battle for the Paddle spirit competition, with tip-off at 4 p.m.
