Sandpoint pair elected to new positions

SANDPOINT — Two city officials were elected to new positions during Association of Idaho Cities meetings in Boise this week.
Sandpoint City Council President Shannon Williamson was elected to a two-year term as District 1 representative for the AIC Municipal Water Users Group oversight group, and City Administrator Jennifer Stapleton was elected president of the Idaho City Management Association.
"I'm honored that I was elected to represent District 1 for the AIC Municipal Water Users Group," Williamson said in an email to the Daily Bee on Wednesday. "It's a wonderful opportunity to learn from other cities across Idaho that have implemented water-related policies that Sandpoint hasn't yet addressed."
The group focuses on current and emerging water policy issues affecting Idaho cities including, but not limited to, water rights, water quality, and stormwater. Williamson said her main duty as a member of the group is to make recommendations to the AIC board regarding all municipal water matters, including the aforementioned policy issues.
The Water Users Group is also authorized to review litigation related to water matters and make recommendations to the board.
"I look forward to tapping into my experience as a water quality professional to help guide the Group's collective recommendations over the next two years of service," Williamson said.
Stapleton said the purpose of the Idaho City/County Management Association’s, an affiliate of International City/County Management Association, is to increase the proficiency and effectiveness of managers and administrators of local government within the state of Idaho; to strengthen the quality of local government through professional management; to encourage and support the precepts of the council/manager plan; to maintain the high ethical standards of the profession of city/county management; and to provide opportunities to enhance the professional development of its members.
"It is an honor to be recognized by my peers," Stapleton said. "I look forward to working with the association members and officers to further our collective professional development and collaboration. This benefits our cities throughout the state, including the city of Sandpoint."
