To celebrate the ninth birthday of Miss Karen Holm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Holm, Patty and Kathy Butler, Patty McNary, Lori Anderson and Kim Tucker came home from school with her to enjoy lunch and the traditional birthday cake. Kim remained as an overnight guest and later in the evening the girls attended the basketball game at Clarks Fork.

WINTER CARNIVAL ROYALTY

Schweitzer Ski Bums and the Xi Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi announce the selection of Queen Barbara Strecker and King Roger Oestmann as Winter Carnival royalty. They will be honored during the ski dance at the Elks. Friday night’s parade and skijoring at War Memorial may be called off unless the town receives a snowfall.

JENNESTAD 60 YEARS IN BUSINESS

Ole M. Jennestad observes 60 years as a Sandpoint businessman on Feb. 1. He came here from Mason, Wisc. in 1904, and the spring of 1905 found him working at the old Humbird mill.

On Feb. 1, 1908 he opened his men’s clothing store on Third, moving in 1910 to a First Ave. location (now the Pastime). In 1920, the store moved to the corner of First and Main, (now Merwin’s), and stayed there until 1954, when it moved to its present location, 317 N. First.

J.M. Coy, N.P. passenger agent, here on Monday from Spokane, said “From all we can learn, the taking over of the railroads by the government will not result in any changes on the Northern Pacific. Everything will run as usual.”

COST $92.36 TO INSURE TEACHERS

W.F. Whitaker, school board secretary, has received a policy from the state insurance dept. insuring all teachers in the district against injury under the workmen’s compensation act. The cost to the district was $92.36. The state law makes it imperative for districts to carry the insurance.

WILL CARRY SOLDIERS ON CONTRACT

The Humbird Lumber co. land department has adopted a policy of carrying all payments due, taxes and interest on contracts made with those now in their country’s service on land or sea or who may go into the army or navy, as long as they are in the country’s service. Twelve men now in the war will be affected.

ANDERSON BRICK CO. EXTENDS

The Anderson Brick company announces the purchase of the old dry pressed brick brickyard. They plan to conduct both their present yard and the dry pressed brick yard.
