RATHDRUM — Grace Kirscher led three Bulldogs in double figures with a game-high 15 points, as the Bulldogs ratcheted up the defense in a commanding 55-19 win over the Hawks in 4A Inland Empire League girls basketball Tuesday night at Lakeland High School.

Ciera Bailey added 11, and Trinity Golder scored 10 for the Bulldogs (11-8, 3-0 4A IEL), who added depth and firepower when seniors Golder and Audrey Mattila returned to the lineup recently from injury. Assistant coach Will Love called it a strong team win with balanced scoring.

“It’s nice to see some of the injured players starting to get back and feel more comfortable. Trinity was making some shots, getting the rust off,” said Love. “Ciera played a really good game, she was able to attack and got to the foul line. We played strong defense and focused on rebounding.”

Sofi Schnepf had seven points, six rebounds and three steals for Lakeland (4-15, 0-4 4A IEL), which managed just eight points in the first half against an emerging defense.

“Sandpoint just played really well from the get-go,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “Once they established a lead, they played with more confidence and we could just never get our footing and establish any momentum.”

Lakeland competes in the 4A Region 1 tournament on Monday at 8 p.m. at North Idaho College.

Sandpoint hosts Moscow in a 4A IEL clash on Thursday, at 5 p.m. Fans are asked to bring canned goods to the game for a food drive.

Bob Witte will call the game live on AM1400.
