Deadline for Bee Super Bowl Challenge is Friday

SANDPOINT — Are you going to tune into the sporting spectacle that is the Super Bowl on Sunday, joining the other 115 million U.S. citizens tuning into NBC to hear the venerable Al Michaels call the Eagles and Patriots tilt?

As of Tuesday night, a total of 26 people have entered the free annual Bee Super Bowl Challenge, and chance to win $100 in cash simply by making a prediction on the big game.

The media circus and incessant hype that surrounds sports’ biggest spectacle will only intensify as the week progresses, so if you’re already sick of seeing the mugs of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick on the tube, you might want to steer clear of the sports channels.

While the Patriots are old hat on this stage, the Eagles are the plucky underdogs intent on winning the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy for some of the most loyal fans in all of sports.

Who knows how much money exchanges hands on Super Bowl wagers, as the Las Vegas sports books take in millions upon millions of dollars in bets. The spread has dropped from the opening line of Pats by six points, to Pats by 4.5 points. It takes a lot of wagering to move a Super Bowl line, so clearly folks are taking the Eagles and points, but many high rollers are famous for making big bets right before kickoff.

Of course the prop bets, also called “sucker bets” by bookies, are more interesting, including an over/under bet for how many times “deflategate” will be mentioned on the broadcast, whether the opening coin flip is heads or tails, or what color Pink’s hair will be when she starts to sing the National Anthem.

Will the clinical Patriots handle their business as usual? Or will the Eagles continue to click on both sides of the ball and roll to another convincing win? Want to win $100?

Then enter the Bee Super Bowl Challenge, but do it fast, as the deadline to enter is Friday at 5 p.m.

To enter, email the winning team, final score and your choice for MVP to eplummer@bonnercountydailybee.com. On Sunday, the Bee will publish the master list to follow along during the game.

May the luckiest fan win.
