July 1, 1968 — HOPE BRIEFS

Mrs. Paul Loman Sr. and her sister, Mrs. W.C. West of Sandpoint, returned to their respective homes last week from a nine days’ visit with relatives in Greeley and Grover, Colo. and in Wyoming. On their homeward journey through Wyoming, they stopped at the Loman ranch at Spotted Horse, a brother’s in Wheatland, and Mrs. West’s brother-in-law’s at Sheridan.

WILSON AT ASIAN DUTY STATION

Communications Tech. 2nd Class Lloyd Wilson, USN, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wilson, Rt. 2, Sandpoint, has reported for duty at the Naval Communications Station, San Miguel, P.I. He is helping provide communications support to the U.S. Seventh Fleet in Southwest Asian waters.

OVERHOLSER GIRLS SCORE OVER MEN

The Overholser girls scored a clean sweep over their male counterparts Sunday on Lake Pend Oreille. Fishing with Lucky Louie Pearl Pink plugs out in the middle between Maiden Rock and Whiskey Rock, the gals boated 50 pounds of fighting Kamloops and Dolly Varden. Mrs. Jeff “Barb” Overholser Jr. caught a 3 lb. Dolly; Mrs. Jeff “Annie” Overholser Sr., a 14 lb. Dolly; Nancy, 9, a 14 lb. Kamloops and Susan, 12, a 19 lb. Kamloops. Jeff, Sr. and Jeff Jr., who didn’t catch any fish, went along for the boat ride.

July 1, 1918 — 91 FOR CAMP LEWIS

Sandpoint never had a more earnest celebration than the farewell tendered the boys who left for Camp Lewis Thursday. It was a county affair, for the boys in whose honor it was given came from all over the county.

The boys had been provided with badges with the inscription, “Kaiser Grabbers from Bonner County” on their lapels, and the exercises were carried out on the school house lawn here. It has been estimated there were 1200 to 1500 spectators and participants. The boys themselves were eager and it was remarked they were a bunch any county might be proud of.

1000 MORE FOR ARMY

Orders have been received from state army headquarters that Idaho must furnish 1000 more men for the national army. They will entrain for Camp Lewis, American Lake, during the five day period beginning July 22. Bonner county will furnish 44 men under this call.

AROUND CITY AND COUNTY

The forest service has a large force watching for fires figuring it is better to prevent or stop fires in infancy than to fight them when full grown.

Miss Helen Peterson left today for a visit to Spokane and other inland points.

The last of the water office furniture was moved to the city hall Friday.
