McCLURE GLUM OVER PROPOSAL
Congressman James A. McClure spoke out in opposition Monday to President Johnson’s request for legislation to register all firearms and gun owners. From Washington McClure said, “There apparently is no end to the insatiable appetite of this administration for firearms control.
“He has done nothing to calm the hysteria of the moment, but seeks to capitalize on the emotionalism of the hour to further his own end.
“The inevitable result will not be a decrease in crime, but an unwarranted curtailment of the activities of free and honest men.”

July 3, 1918 — MASCOTS REACH CAMP
When the boys left Sandpoint for Camp Lewis, they took a goat and a young coyote. The goat was Joe Willi’s, who received it as a gift from his brother, Phil.
Sunday’s Spokesman says: “Bonner county men brought along the Kaiser’s goat, decorated with a banner strung from horns to tail bearing the name ‘Sandpoint, Idaho.’ “Kaiser Bill” was emblazoned on a card hung from the animal’s neck and the men took their mascot with them to the barracks. The Idaho men also have a coyote pup the men bought in a Red Cross auction en route, the animal netting $25 to the Red Cross.”

EXEMPTED TO BE RE-EXAMINED
Under new instructions received by the county draft board, all the men heretofore examined will have to be re-examined. It is probable that many men that have been exempted will now be found fit for service.
