July 8, 1968 — SOUTHTOWN CAFE OPEN

The newest cafe in the Sandpoint area has opened in the former Southtown shopping center building at the south end of the long bridge on US 95. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Jukich began operating the cafe last week. In an advertisement carried in this issue, they extend an invitation to the public.

SEAMAN RECRUIT WEISZ IN TRAINING

Seaman Recruit Gary J. Weisz, USN, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Weisz, Rt. 2, Sandpoint, is undergoing nine weeks of basic training in the Naval Training Station at San Diego.

NUPTIAL MASS FOR STROHMAIERS

Miss Denice Kay Lutzke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Lutzke of Sandpoint, and Theodore F. Strohmaier, son of Mrs. E.B. Ponack of Clarkston, Wash., and the late Ted Strohmaier of Sandpoint, became husband and wife at a Nuptial Mass celebrated June 15 by the Rev. A.V. Dulberg at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her floor-length wedding gown was fashioned by her mother. For something old she wore a lavalier of gold filigree set with a single diamond and pearls which had belonged to her grandmother.

July 8, 1918 — HELP!!!

Sandpoint Chapter, American Red Cross, just received its new knitting allotment to be shipped to Seattle before September, consisting of 200 sweaters and 1410 pairs of sox. We have been months in gathering our present allotment of only 345 pairs of sox, so it will be seen we must have more knitters to meet this big demand. There must be a great many ladies in Sandpoint who could knit, and we appeal to all to learn. Some one will be at headquarters every day to instruct.

CITY BREVITIES

Word came from our honor boys that all but one stood the physical test at Camp Lewis, one being exempted on account of calloused feet.

The five boys who left here on the N.P. Monday for Pocatello’s Polytechnic school for military instruction, got as far as Kootenai. The conductor insisted they were $12 shy of allowing them sleeper accommodations and the men decided to leave the train and walk back to Sandpoint. The next day they were provided with the extra funds and departed on No. 2 for Pocatello via Butte.

NEW COUNTY FOOD ADMINISTRATOR

Owing to press of business, E.D. Farmin has resigned as county food administrator. The defense council has prevailed upon A.T. Park, new school superintendent, to take the post.
