July 10, 1968 — NEWS FROM SAGLE

Mr. and Mrs. Buster Bandy and their children, Debbie, Buster Jr., Clifford and Cathy, from California are visiting the Herman Crabbs.

Much was accomplished on Sagle Community hall last weekend despite rainy weather. The building was wired for electricity and forms poured for new steps. Mrs. Glenn Reed, Mrs. Earl Sheffler and Mrs. Delbert Sheffler served lunch.

VALEDICTORIANS FLOCK TO U of I

Admissions records at the University of Idaho show that high school valedictorians from every corner of the state are enrolling at the Moscow school. From Sandpoint is Bruce H. Greene, valedictorian of the Sandpoint Class of 1968. Also from the north end of the state are valedictorians from Coeur d’Alene, St. Maries, Lapwai, Lewiston, Kellogg, Potlatch, Genesee and Mullan.

ARNDT SAYS WORK CUT OUT FOR HIM

“I’ve got my work cut out for me. Pittsburgh drafted a lot of tackles,” was the report from former Sandpoint Bulldog standout Dick Arndt, professional football lineman who reports next week to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ training camp.

The handsome young giant (260 lbs.) was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, but was traded to Green Bay, where he joined Jerry Kramer, Sandpoint’s other pro football great. He was then traded to Pittsburgh early last season.

July 10, 1918 — NEW POLICE CHIEF

Patrolman John Jaeger is now acting chief of police after a sudden decision on the part of Sherm Young to resign the job. Whether Chief Young’s decision was induced by talk at the council or not, cannot be stated with definiteness, but anyway some of the council had their own opinions of the chief’s duties and the chief is now an ex-chief. Jaeger does not seem to have any great hankering for the job, so it is still unsettled.

GARDEN, CANNING CLUBS ATTENTION

All members of the garden and canning clubs are requested to come to the Farmin school building and enjoy an hour in playing games and singing songs under the direction of Miss Stephens of the University of Idaho – all come.

RECEIVES FEDERAL APPOINTMENT

Word has been received here that attorney A.K. Bowden was appointed to the internal revenue inspection service with the duty of appraising alien estates taken over by the government.

LIBERTY CHORUS

At the suggestion of the state defense council, a Liberty chorus will be formed by the Bonner county women’s committee. Mrs. Patterson has been asked to lead this volunteer chorus. The meeting time and place will be announced later.
