Peak Sand and Gravel Lakers to host districts
Face Lumbermen today in a home doubleheader
SANDPOINT — The U19 Peak Sand and Gravel Lakers will play host to the upcoming American Legion Single A District Championships on July 19-22 at War Memorial Field.
The Lakers (6-1 in league play) are coming off a five game league winning streak, sweeping Lewis & Clark 6-5 and 6-1, then beating St. Maries 10-0, Moscow 8-6 and Northern Lakes 5-4.
The Lakers are looking to secure the No. 1 seed at districts today when they take on the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen (7-2) in a doubleheader, with games slated for 5 and 7 p.m.
Billy Brackett laced a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning in the 6-5 win over Lewis and Clark. Tristan Authier got the start for the Lakers, allowing one hit and no runs over five and two-thirds innings, while striking out four.
Tyrone Larson and Authier each racked up multiple hits for the Lakers, with Larson going a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate.
In the 6-1 win, Kade MacDonald, Sydney Bottomley and Caleb Edlund each had multiple hits for the Lakers, while Bottomley swiped two of the five team steals.
In the 5-4 win over Northern Lakes, the Lakers pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. Larson and Tyler Shaffer had RBI singles, with Shaffer scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Garrett Connolly
Thomas Riley went all seven innings to earn the win, allowing four hits while striking out two and letting a plus defense go to work.
MacDonald and Larson each collected two hits to lead the offense.
