Bokowy, Bamer, Schoening shine for Sharks in most recent swim meets
SANDPOINT — A host of top 10 finishes were turned in, and more team records continue to fall, as the SWAC Sharks competed at the Moses Lake Sizzlin’ Summer Open Meet and the Spokane Summer Solstice Meet recently.
Last weekend in Moses Lake, Payton Bokowy won all eight of her events (400 free, 200 IM, 100 breast, 200 back, 50 free, 200 free, 100 back, 100 free) en route to winning high point honors, setting a PR of 4:56 in the 400 free. It’s likely the decorated swimmer’s final meet as a Shark, before she swims this fall for Washington State.
Ryleigh Bamer was second in the 50 fly, third in the 100 breast and fourth in four other events in a strong showing. Bamer broke two team records, lowering her own 200 free mark and breaking Bokowy’s time in the 100 breast.
Kate Bokowy finished third in the 200 breast, 100 back and 200 IM, scoring points in all eight of her events, Mikayla Schoening was second in the 50 free and third in the 200 back while setting PRs and scoring points in all six of her events, and Caitlyn Smith was 10th in the 200 back to round out the top 10 finishers.
In the previous meet in Spokane, Caleb Norling led the way with a third place in the 400 IM, and fifth place in the 200 breast and 200 free. Ryleigh Bamer was fourth in the 50 fly, 100 breast and 100 fly and fifth in the 200 free. Both Bamer and Norling set new Sharks team records.
Payton Bokowy was third in the 50 back, fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 200 IM in some loaded heats. Other top 10 finishes were turned in by Jack Grzincic (4th in 50 back, 6th in 50 fly), Kaya Wright (4th in 50 back, 10th in 50 free), Autumn Morgan (4th in 50 breast, 6th in 50 back, 9th in 200 IM), Emily Ballard (8th in 50 breast), Ikaika Leavitt (9th in 50 fly) and Triston Tomco (9th in 200 fly, 9th in 50 back).
