Libraries help communities stay connected

Studies show that people who visit local parks feel more connected to their community. Take advantage of these opportunities to enjoy summer, engage your brain, and connect to our community:

- Movies in the Park – The Bonner Co. Historical Museum shows a free screening of The Princess Bride at Lakeview Park TODAY at dusk. Visit their website for details.

- Farmers’ Market – Food, fun, art, and music by Doug and Marty.

- Storytime in the Park – The Library’s Mother Goose and Family Story times hit the park (Travers Park) this month on Tuesdays at 10: 15 and 11 AM respectively.

- STEM in the Park – Part of the 2018 Libraries Rock Summer Reading initiative. Each week kids learn a new useful skill at Travers Park.

- StoryWalk – Go it alone, or bring the family to each of the StoryWalk locations to read, breathe fresh air, and get a little exercise.

- Saturday, July 21— Little Mozarts Music Class Series, 10:30 a.m. at the Sandpoint branch library. Music Conservatory of Sandpoint’s Michelle Handy leads music class for kids. - Tuesday, July 24 — Mother Goose in the Park, 10:15 a.m. at Travers Park, 2100 Pine St. The Library’s Story Times have moved to Travers Park for the month of July! - Tuesday, July 24 — Family Story Time in the Park, 11 a.m. at Travers Park, 2100 Pine St. The Library’s Story Times have moved to Travers Park for the month of July! Stories and crafts for kids and their caregivers. Information: 208-263-6930, ext. 1211, or suzanne@ebonnerlibrary.org.

- Tuesday, July 24 — 3D Printing Workshop, 5 p.m. at the Sandpoint branch library. Take a beginner-level coding class and design your very own 3D printed object. Preregistration is required: 208-263-6930.

- Wednesday, July 25 — Stories and More, 10:30 a.m. at the Clark Fork branch library. Stories, crafts, prizes, and snacks for kids ages 3-8. Information: 208-266-1321.

- Wednesday, July 25 — Crafternoon – Rock Out!, 2 p.m. at the Sandpoint branch library. Learn about rocks, fossils, and petrified wood with Nancy Scott. Hold a fossilized dinosaur bone and see Mt. - Wednesday, July 25 — Drumming Circle, 2 p.m., at the Clark Fork branch library. DRUMatic Innovation leads a drumming circle . Geared for kids, but all welcome. Information: 208-266-1321.

- Wednesday, July 25 — Music Trivia for Teens, 5 p.m., at the Clark Fork branch library. Are you a lyric master? Are you an ’80s band expert? Test your musical knowledge with this fun set of trivia games. Information: 208-263-6930, ext. 1245, or morgan@ebonnerlibrary.org.

- Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28 — National Teen Library Lock-in & Nerf Battle, 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. at the Sandpoint branch library. A night of fun and games with teens from libraries across the country! Author chats, Minute to Win It games, Nerf battle, good tunes and more. Stay the night and have pancakes in the morning. - Satuday, July 28 — Organic Seed Saving, 1 p.m. at the Sandpoint branch library. Come and discuss organic gardening and seed saving. Bring food and seeds to share if you can. If you can’t, come anyway! Information: 208-265-2665.

- Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program — Log your reading to earn badges, win prizes, and stay sharp over the summer. Summer Reading is online this year (print logs are available, too). - StoyWalk — Pages from a children’s book are posted along a trail for a fun, family experience. Enjoy “Searcher and the Old Tree” by David McPhail at McNearney Park and “Kid Sheriff and the Terrible Toads” by Bob Shea at Dover City Park. Read, connect, and get outside at a StoryWalk, a partnership of The Library, Kaniksu Land Trust, city of Dover, and city of Ponderay.
