Festival Camp is a delight
Last night, the Panida put on a show highlighting ALL the children who participated in the Festival Music Camp this week. I was blown away. After four days of studying, there were more than 40 children strumming the Ukulele and singing along. There were beginning guitars, piano, string ensembles, band — it was truly amazing what these beginners learned in only four days.
One of the highlights of the evening was a huge group playing buckets like drums — loud and fun. Every one of the children, I think over 116, joined in singing together — truly amazing.
My grandson came from California to participate in this camp sponsored by the Festival at Sandpoint. He attended all four days — arriving early each day and he truly enjoyed the experience. His expertise is violin so he participated in Orchestra Grande and chamber orchestra, choir and beginning ukulele. He said he (and now his twin brother, as well) would love to attend if they hold the camp again.
All the parents in Sandpoint should take note of this great program sponsored by the Festival. Every child can apply for this camp.
Also beginning in the 6th grade each student that wishes to play an instrument can do so. They will be provided with an instrument if the family cannot afford one. This is also sponsored by the Festival.
To put music in the hearts of these children is such a gift. Thanks to the Festival for sponsoring this Music Camp and for sponsoring the instruments for students in the middle and high school. Thank you Beth Weber for this new program. Thank you, all the instructors — thank you all!
I am so proud to live in this great town.
