July 26, 1918 – FIVE NURSES WANTED
Bonner county is expected to furnish five young women in response to the call for student nurses. The nation’s reserve of nurses has been depleted by calls for service in military and naval hospitals and it is now necessary to call 25,000 student nurses, to be enrolled in the United States student nurse reserve, beginning July 29. Young ladies desiring to enter the service can do so by leaving their names at Red Cross headquarters.

ACROSS LONG BRIDGE; AWAY TO WAR
Bonner county sent 53 men of the July call to Camp Lewis Monday. The men appeared at the court house and responded to their names as they were called by County Auditor McCrea. Each was given a badge on which was printed “On My Way to Berlin from Bonner County, Idaho.” McCrea announced that he had four more men than necessary to fill the quota and asked if any one desired to remain at home and wait for the next call. Not a man stood up. It is estimated Bonner county now has 600 young men in war service, a record, considering its total population, unrecorded by any other county of the state and equaled by few in Uncle Sam’s dominion.
