Woman charged with grand theft
PRIEST RIVER — An application used to locate lost devices shed light on a burglary in Pend Oreille County, court records show.
A Jeep Liberty and other property was stolen during a break-in along U.S. Highway 2. The alleged victim’s daughter used the application, which placed a stolen iPad at a home in the 300 block of Warren Avenue, according to a Priest River Police probable cause affidavit.
The home’s owner allowed police to check the residence for the stolen property, which led to the discovery of the iPad and a keyless remote for a Jeep vehicle, the affidavit said. The search also led to the discovery of Brandy Selene Rowland, who was hiding beneath a pile of clothing in the home. She was arrested without incident.
Rowland, 32, was questioned about the missing Jeep Liberty, but she denied having knowledge of it, the affidavit said. Officers also discovered a Subaru that was filled with more than $1,000 worth of property, including a guitar, computer, binoculars and electronics, court records show.
The alleged victim told police that Rowland came to his house, but he had to leave and allowed her to wait outside for a ride. Upon his return, the man said his home and been broken into and the Jeep was missing.
Rowland made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday, where Judge Tera Harden set bail at $7,500, court records show.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for next month.
