Embarassment of Entertainment riches on hand

SANDPOINT – Nice weather and an embarrassment of entertainment riches are the order of the day. Don’t miss Leftover Salmon tonight at The Hive, the Contra Dance on Friday at Community Hall and (shameless plug) Bridges Home in its original duo format for a very special show Saturday at Pend d’Oreille Winery.

Also on tap, a fun animated flick at the Panida all weekend and Customer Appreciation Day this Saturday at the Sandpoint Farmers Market.

Thursday, June 7

Leftover Salmon

Venue: The Hive, 207 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

Leftover Salmon is one of the great purveyors of Americana: bluegrass picking, Cajun two-stepping and the country blues.

‘Isle of Dogs’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

In this stop-motion-animated film from writer/director Wes Anderson, an outbreak of canine flu in Japan leads all dogs to be quarantined on an island. A boy journeys there to rescue his dog Spots and gets help from a pack of misfit canines who have also been exiled. His quest inspires a group of dog lovers to expose a government conspiracy.

As seen with The Other White Meat, Coeur d’Alene’s Kyle Swaffard is heading to the Beer Hall for a special Thursday Night Solo Series Show. Please put your hands together for this special North Idaho Artist.

Friday, June 8

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing with friends – those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music will be provided by the Nine Pint Coggies and all dances will be called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

‘Song of the Open Road’

Venue: Circle Moon Theatre, located on Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport, Wash.

Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.

Join a cast of wise and quirky Hobos who find themselves with an unexpected challenge or two on their hands.

Additional shows on June 9, 12 and 15-16.
