This past week I have listened to several commentators and read several articles about how our voting systems could be hacked and what would be targeted.

Suffice it to say that there is something positive that we, as voters can do. The consensus is that no matter who tries to hack the voting system, the actual ballot box and ballot count are not the first targets. The registration lists are the first target. The manipulation of the list is the goal and all that has to be changed is the ZIP code on your registration and you won’t be on the list when you show up at the poll to vote.

So what to do? Make the trip to your county clerk where you register to vote and register for an absentee ballot. You won’t have to spend time at the polling station, take time off from work, scramble at the last minute, and miss voting due to unforeseen circumstances. You will miss seeing your friends who work the poling station and having your name called out when you finish, but you could buy some gooey donuts and take them to your friends so they can feel more appreciated while sitting there staring at the walls.

Bottom line, it is simple to make it harder for the hackers plus you get the chance to spill coffee on your ballot!
