June 14, 1968 – ENGAGEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. Owen T. Hunt of Ketchikan, Alaska, announce the engagement of their daughter, Gail, to Craig Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Thompson, Jr., Hope. Miss Hunt, a junior at the University of Idaho, is majoring in sociology and is president of Pi Beta Phi. Mr. Thompson, also a junior at the U of I, is majoring in architecture and belongs to Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. No wedding date has been set.

SUNDANCE WAS N.Y. TIMES FEATURE
The New York Times recently featured a story of the now famous Sundance and Trapper Peak forest fires of 1967. These spectacular blazes in Bonner and Boundary counties that started near Priest lake burned over 55,000 acres of land.
A copy of the article was sent us by Loren Evenson who is stationed at Floyd Bennett Naval Air Station, Brooklyn, N.Y. Evenson grew up in Sandpoint and tramped over much of the territory swept by the fires. His father is Millard Evenson, retired Kaniksu National Forest staff member.

KOOTENAI GRADUATION
Eighth grade graduation exercises were held at the Kootenai School May 29. G.H. Phillips, school principal, presented diplomas to Michael Berger, Terry Bloom, Thomas Carter, Walter Inman, Betty Kinne, Jeffrey Kemp, Rose Marks, Anna Stevens, Cathie McAvoy, Cheryl Ostrom, Carl Syth, Ronald Roberson, Randy Short, and Connie Stutzke.

June 14, 1918 – 95 MEN FOR ARMY
Bonner county’s June quota for the national army has been placed at 95 and these figures may be enlarged before the end of the month.
The exemption board is mailing out notices to 167 county men of draft age, and from these will be secured the “honor men” who will represent a portion of Uncle Sam’s fighting forces. The men will appear in Sandpoint on June 27.
A holiday will be the order of things so far as the merchants and city administration is concerned when the boys board their train for Camp Lewis, Wash., where they will go into training.

AROUND CITY AND COUNTY
Buster Brown held the attention of the boys and girls of the city yesterday, when he appeared at the Gem theater in connection with the Kerr & Nead establishment. Buster and his dog, Tige performed as only they can, to the delight of both old and young. Before the close of the show every boy and girl promised to buy Buster Brown shoes for sale by this local establishment.
The swimmin’ season has arrived as evidenced by the fact that about twenty persons, mostly girls, took advantage of the water Sunday. The lake water is extremely warm for this time of the year due no doubt to the small raise from the mountain streams this spring.
