For the first time in 22 years, sealed bids are being requested for the lease of Sandpoint airport. The bids will be opened June 24 at the commissioner’s office in the courthouse.

The airport has been operated for more than 22 years by Donald M. Kramer who, during that time, has negotiated the lease every three years. The new proposed lease calls for a term of five years.

Kramer said his last lease expired two years ago and he had been operating the airport on an extension of the lease since then.

Pend d’Oreille Review

June 17, 1918 — LANDS BEHIND BARS

John McNicholls, a middle-aged Irishman residing near Sagle, was found guilty upon a charge of violation of the federal espionage act in federal court at Coeur d’Alene Saturday.

Evidence against him was given by deputy fish warden H.B. Garrison and Harry S. Fry, prominent Sagle rancher. Fry and Garrison had charge of the recent war chest drive in Sagle district. When they waited upon McNicholls at his ranch home, McNicholls not only refused to subscribe but said “the Red Cross was a graft.”

McNicholls claimed in his own defense that he had made no remarks detrimental to this country, though he had said Germany was a superior country to England.

Judge Deitrich sentenced McNicholls to serve 12 months in the Boundary county jail.

NEW FOOD ADMINISTRATION ORDER

To all merchants of Bonner county: Effective at once, sales of sugar for family use to town customers is limited to two pounds and sales to country customers is limited to five pounds. You are requested not to sell five pounds to a person living in or quite close to another town where sugar may be purchased. Any person although living in the country who can conveniently limit his purchase of sugar to two pounds at a time or less, is doing his patriotic duty in so doing.
