IPNF hosting open house

| June 17, 2018 1:00 AM

The Idaho Panhandle National Forests is hosting a public open house for the Grouse Bear Management Unit Compliance Project located within both the Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint Ranger Districts of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests.

The open house will be Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sandpoint Ranger Station, 1602 Ontario Street. This is also the same time and location as the Bog Creek Road open house. Both open houses will allow the public to learn and ask questions about the respective proposed projects.

The Grouse BMU Project is located approximately 18 miles north of Sandpoint on Highway 95. The public comment period is open for 30 days. Comments will be accepted through June 25.

The Forest Service is required to manage roads within the Grouse BMU to comply with the 2015 Land and Resource Management Plan to support the recovery of the grizzly bear. Approximately 28 miles of roads, most of which are not currently open for public motor vehicle travel, are proposed for storage in order to bring the BMU into compliance.
