June 19, 1968 ­— CITY IN BRIEF

Hilltop Iris Gardens is holding open house during the month of June, according to Mrs. True Wilson. Mrs. Wilson presents a free iris gift to each lady who visits the gardens, located above Pinecrest Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sletager returned from Wickenburg, Ariz., where they spent the winter.

HYDROPLANE STILL LOOSE

Evelyn Snedden reported an abandoned hydroplane on her waterfront property at Rocky Point. The boat is registered to Bruce Martin who could not be located. The plane was reported on the Moon property nearby earlier in the week.

TIMBLIN TO REPORT TO SAN DIEGO

Pfc. Dennis Timblin is spending a 20-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Timblin, Colburn. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on Feb. 27 for three years and took infantry training at Camp Pendleton and basic training at San Diego. He will report to San Diego on June 19 to attend electronics school.

June 19, 1918 — COMPANY H MEN KILLED

Last Saturday, the casualty list of those “killed in action” contained the names of Corp. George Bell of Winchester, Ida. and Pvt. John F. Keming of Spaulding, Ida. Both men were stationed in Sandpoint last summer as members of Company H, Third Idaho National guard.

SANDPOINT NOW OWNS WATER SYSTEM

The formal taking over of the Sandpoint waterworks system by the city last Tuesday was witnessed by Mayor C.F. Ewing, City Clerk Myrvin Davis, City Attorney Peter Johnson, Treasurer W.S. Finney and J.L. Drumheller, president of the company, along with his attorney, W.H. Canfield.

At four o’clock Mr. Drumheller affixed $98 in revenue stamps to the property deed, in return receiving a check from Sandpoint for the sum of $98,000 less $1421.05, the difference being for interest on a debt assumed by the city, together with taxes on the property.

Sandpoint now owns all the company’s property and has moved the water office to city hall where it will be in charge of Water Commissioner Davis.

LAND CLEARING DEMONSTRATION

All farmers and those interested are urged to be present at the land-clearing demonstration next Saturday at the county farm, near the G.N. depot in Sandpoint. Practical tests in land-clearing and stump-pulling, showing the best methods will be explained by experienced authorities.
