High school teen tennis clinic offers top coaching

| June 21, 2018 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint High School head coach Kent Anderson is putting on the 10th anniversary of the Sandpoint Teen Tennis Camp, and once again a pair of top tennis pros will be on hand to help the players improve while having fun on July 9-13 at the Travers Park courts.

The camp will run each day from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The class fee is $90 ($5 city discount), with camp T-Shirts and prizes available to all of the campers. On-line pre-registration is due by June 25 at www.sandpointidaho.gov/parksrecreation. Camp is open to existing and incoming high school players, or by special permission of instructors. Participants must bring daily sack lunches.

Anderson, a former college player at the University of Montana who has built one of the top tennis teams in North Idaho, will be joined once again by a pair of regular guest pros, giving participants an opportunity to work-out with some of the best college coaches and pros in the state.

“These pros will be dedicated to the personal development and improvement of each player,” claimed Anderson. “We’re always one of the best teams in the state, but that only happens with dedication.”

John Gant returns for the 10th time. He is the head pro at North Park Tennis in Spokane and the head coach at Spokane Community College, and also a former Division 1 college player who was once the head coach at Gonzaga.

Also returning for the 10th time is CiCi Rickert, former MVP on the University of Minnesota team that won the Big 10 championship in 2003. She’s also a former Nike tennis coach and three year member of the Northern Section of the U.S. Zone Tennis Team.

There will also be a host of guest feeders, making sure the campers get to hit as many balls and learn as much as possible.
