Marjorie Marie Garner, 85

| June 21, 2018 1:00 AM

Marjorie Marie Garner, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2018, in Sandpoint, Idaho, due to complications from COPD. Her final resting place will be in the Hope Cemetery.

Margie was born on June 3, 1933, in Evanston, Ill., to William and Elizabeth Nugent. She moved to California at age 9 and graduated from Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif., in 1951. In 1953, she married Lloyd Lyle Garner in Long Beach. Although life found them living briefly on Vashon Island, Wash., and Denver, Colo. Southern California is where they settled until their divorce.

Margie then moved to La Jolla, Calif., where she started a new chapter in her life. During that time, she was fascinated with hang gliders flying along the ocean cliffs of La Jolla. She always talked about giving it a try herself, but never got air born until visiting Hope, Idaho, where she parasailed on Lake Pend Oreille. She absolutely loved the experience! There was an adventurous side to Margie many might not have known about.

Her club affiliations were The Alamitos Women’s Golf Club in California and National Charity League. She loved her charity work. In later years, she joined her beloved Sandpoint PEO Chapter CA, where she served as chaplain.

She worked at Long Beach State University, and Orange Coast College for 25 years. She loved motivational speakers Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle amongst others, but her church affiliation at First Christian Church in Sandpoint was very dear to her heart.

Margie had the most beautiful handwriting, and always the right words to say in her writings. She loved to sing and cared deeply about family and friends. She was always amazed with the giving community spirit of Sandpoint, and proud (even though a big city girl at heart) to call Sandpoint her home since 2007.

She is survived by son James Garner (Kelli); daughter Sadie, Costa Mesa, Calif.; daughter Teddi Garner (Barbara) Hope, Idaho; brother Dennis Nugent (Carol) children, Katie, Kelly and Lindsey, Arlington Heights, Ill.; sister Susan Raynsford, children Bryson and Riley of Carlsbad, Calif.; sister Mary Beth Thomas (Ken) children Jessica and Nikki, Prairie, Wis.; granddaughters Sadie and Lindsay, great-granddaughters Haley and Heidi; several nieces and nephews; cousin, Nancy Mosman (Tim) Tucson, Ariz. and, dear childhood friend of 76 years, Ann Conradi Cast, Kauai, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Lloyd James Garner, her brother William Nugent, father William Nugent, mother Elizabeth “Betty” Nugent Cavanaugh, stepfather Frank A. Cavanaugh, husband Lloyd Lyle Garner, and companion Charlie Steven Kress.
