Sandpoint claims gold medals at State Games Hayley Thompson, above, and Bob Leichtman, right, represented Sandpoint recently at the Special Olympic Idaho State Games in Twin Falls. Thompson took gold in the standing long jump and silver in the 100 meter dash. Leichtman earned a gold medal in the softball throw and 5th place in the tennis ball throw. “Bob is a great guy, great spirit, always smiling and joking,” described coach Chris Painter. “He has to work twice as hard as anyone else to compete and never complains. He has participated in Athletics, Cycling, Swimming, Bocce and Bowling.” Also at state for the Sandpoint team were Jeff Chambers, who earned a silver medal in the men’s softball throw and the 25 meter dash, and Michelle Couldry, who earned a 4th place in the 100 meter race walk and a 5th place in the softball throw.
