WBCSD closes PREP school

| June 22, 2018 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — In a 3-1 vote with one abstention on Wednesday, the closing of the Priest River Educational Program became official.

West Bonner County School District board members Sandy Brower, Bruce Hollett and Samuel "Ranger Rick" Hall voted in favor of closing the school, while Drew McLain voted against it. Trustee Margaret Hall abstained from voting.

The Bonner County School District was split into two districts in July 1999, culminating in the creation of the PREP school in 2000. The alternative school offered a local option for students that offers individualized instruction and small group classes.

WBCSD Superintendent Paul Anselmo said closure of the school was recommended due to declining enrollment numbers, as seven students were anticipated to enroll for the 2018-2019 school year.
