Many thanks go out to the Sandpoint Elks No. 1376, the sponsors in the community, and the many golfers who helped raise money for local needy veterans.

The Elks just celebrated their 10th anniversary this past September by putting on their annual Patriotic Golf Scramble to raise money. Each year with the help of the community by being corporate sponsors, hole sponsors or donating items for the silent action they seem to raise a little more than the past year. This past September was their best year so far and they raised $15,000 with 25 percent off the top being donated to Kanisku Veterans Dental Health Program.

We veterans are indebted to David and Linda Tatlock with the Elks for doing so much for this worthy event the past 10 years. With their hard work and the support of all the sponsors and supporters the five veteran organizations wouldn’t be able to help the veterans as much as they do. The five veteran organizations are Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Marine Corps League.

To the sponsors and the supporters, we thank you for your past support and look forward to your continued participation. There are between 4,000 and 5,000 veterans in Bonner and Boundary counties. Many are homeless or live off the grid. As a member of one of the organizations I am asking for your help. As you know veterans are proud people and don’t like to ask for help. If you know of any veterans who need help, please contact Howard Bigelow, VFW veteran service officer, 208-263-9613, or Everett Wood with the Marine Corps League, 208-265-5836.
