Fund seeks scholarship applicants

To further its mission of serving women and children in the Spokane region, the Women Helping Women Fund recently announced the expansion of the Vivian Winston Scholarship to mothers attending Washington State University: Spokane, Whitworth University and Gonzaga University.

The Vivian Winston Scholarship awards funds to assist mothers attending college who currently have children in child care. The scholarship is named in honor of WHWF founder, Vivian Winston, who worked throughout her life to remove barriers for women and children.

Traditionally the scholarship has been limited to students of Eastern Washington University and the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Applications for the scholarship are now available online at www.whwfspokane.org. Applications must be completed by March 16 and recipients will be notified by April 24. Awardees will attend the WHWF Annual Luncheon and be recognized at the Winston and Cashatt Lawyers table, Tuesday May 22 at the Spokane Convention Center.

The Women Helping Women Fund was established in 1992 to raise the level of awareness about the plight of women and children living in poverty in our community. The non-profit believes that empowering women and children builds healthy families and vibrant communities.

The organization is committed to helping women and children by raising money to assist programs that are making a difference in the lives of those in need. A volunteer board of directors and executive director guides the direction and operations of the organization.
