Dan McDonald’s focus comes from his career in construction where budgets and timelines are rigid rules and day to day problems must be solved on the spot.
Within county offices he encourages and empowers everyone to innovate and step up to improve performance. He began introducing himself to people working for the county even before he took office and estimates he’s met 90% of all Bonner County employees.
Beyond the administrative structure, his primary concerns are healthy forests, roads, taxes, property values and jobs.
His moral and ethical values define his political philosophy, but he serves us from a non-partisan position. He looks at facts, assesses the need and makes a business-like decision to state his argument or cast his vote. The votes he delivers are on behalf of the county, not personal biases.
In ancient Rome, Marcus Porcius Cato (the Elder) observed, “the average Roman doesn’t care about what the legions are doing in foreign lands. He cares about the pebble in his shoe.” His point was that people are moved by what affects them on a daily basis. Can they find work and afford the necessities of life? When they do, are their taxes going up?
Dan McDonald, a modern guy who shares an ancient wisdom understands this philosophy. He works non stop to do something, not to be something. Asked what he considers to be the most important part of his job as Bonner County Commissioner, his reply is; “Preserving our culture.”
He deserves our votes.
