Buckle up and get ready for fun-packed weekend

SANDPOINT — Ah, and to be sure it’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Sandpoint!

On Saturday, the Bridges Home Trio has an all-Celtic music concert at the Pend Oreille Playhouse in Newport. It’s a sweet venue, but seating is limited, so grab those tickets.

POAC hosts its 21st annual Student Art Show Friday at the Powerhouse Gallery and, starting tonight, the Panida screens two cool films, starting with “The Disaster Artist” and moving on to a family film called “Mune: Guardian of the Moon.” Friday night, the Panida brings an osprey expert to speak at the Little Theater in a special event sponsored by Kaniksu Land Trust, Idaho Wildlife Foundation and the Equinox Foundation.

Hold on to your tweed cap — it’s a full week of action ahead:

Thursday, March 15

‘The Disaster Artist’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

A nomination for best-adapted screenplay, “The Disaster Artist holds” its own as a surprisingly emotional and unique buddy movie. When Greg Sestero, an aspiring film actor, meets the weird and mysterious Tommy Wiseau in an acting class, they form a friendship and travel to Hollywood to make their dreams come true. Rated R.

The Jason Spooner Band

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Don’t must this rare opportunity to hear this powerhouse group on tour from Portland, Maine, featuring multi-award winning New England-based singer songwriter Jason Spooner. With a delectably harmonic, subtly emotive voice channeling thought-provoking lyrics, Jason straddles various edges of folk, country, rock and blues.

Student Art Show

Venue: Power House Gallery, 120 Lake St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Pend Oreille Arts Council hosts the 21st annual Student Art Show, where POAC includes one select piece produced throughout the school year by students across Bonner County. Many of these artworks go on to state competitions, but the public has the chance to see the first public viewing. Sponsored by Super 1 Foods.

‘The Osprey of North Idaho’

Enjoy the observations of an expert as Wayne Melquist presents “The Osprey of North Idaho”. Sponsored by Kaniksu Land Trust, Idaho Wildlife Foundation and the Equinox Foundation.

One Street Over

12th Anniversary Party and Devon Wade

MickDuff’s celebrates St. Paddy’s weekend with an open house and brewery tours with Mickey and Duffy from 3-6 p.m. and then hit the dance floor with the Devon Wade Band.

Bridges Home Trio ‘The Celtic Concert’

Venue: Pend Oreille Playhouse, 236 S. Union St., in Newport, Wash.

We’re always excited about this time of year, because we get to pull out powerful Celtic music with glistening harmonies, Celtic harp, Irish whistles, bodhran and more. Plus, the Pend Oreille Playhouse is such a great venue. Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Bridges Home. Plan ahead — seating is limited.

‘Mune: Guardian of the Moon’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

As legend has it, the first Guardian of the Sun threw a harpoon into the cosmos and roped the sun to bring light and warmth to all of humanity. Then the Guardian of the Moon lured the moon to the Land of Darkness to provide a balance to the sun and supply the world with dreams. At a momentous ceremony to appoint the two new guardians, an accident seems to occur; the heir apparent is passed over, and the title Guardian of the Moon is bestowed on the waif-like Mune.

Come grab a glass of wine or beer — you won’t want to miss this ‘Electro-Custic Mid-Fi in Double-Wide West-O-Phonic’ phenomenon!

24 Hours For Hank and two bands

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 4 p.m.-midnight

Live music starts at 4 p.m. with Rick Dorin and Steve Rush, a groovy blues/folk inspired duo sure to get you moving. Stay late, as the Niner is hosting Harold’s IGA from 9 p.m. until midnight.

St. Paddy’s Cornhole Classic

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Registration, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; first toss at 1 p.m.

Cornhole kings and queens will be taking to the three regulation indoor brewery courts set up to test your tossin’ abilities in a double elimination tournament. They’re capping it to 32 teams so sign up early via the phone 208-209-6700 or show up day to register.

Admission: $20 buy-in per team, $10 per person for those 21 and over.

The Other White Meat

This classic rock and roll band from North Idaho has been around since the early 1990’s, featuring Kyle Swaffard on vocals, Bass, and Kazoo, Benny Baker on vocals and guitars, Dana Peite on drums and percussion.

A fundraiser for the DayBreak Center Family Assistance Fund. The DayBreak Center provides quality daytime care for individuals with memory impairments, providing the caregiver with a much needed respite. Along with raffle items and a silent auction, there will be live music provided by Mark Remmetter, Rick Price and Stan Pardee.
